Housing Expo set to showcase Sunderland on international stage
Sunderland will fall under the spotlight as a place to live, when it hosts an internationally significant future living expo in 2023.
One of a number of major projects to be included in the Riverside Sunderland Masterplan – released this week to set out a blueprint for the development of this significant urban quarter – Sunderland’s Future Living Expo will celebrate the new homes being developed for 21st Century living in the heart of the city.
The Sunderland Future Living Expo – which has been organised in partnership with igloo Regeneration, the UK’s leading responsible real estate business – will be officially launched on Monday 19th October, kicking off a five-day programme of webinar discussions that will focus on the key themes for the 2023 event.
The launch will start the countdown to a festival of events, displays and discussions in the summer of 2023, that will showcase innovative new ways of building homes, and creating sustainable communities that enable the people of Sunderland to live healthy and fulfilling lifestyles.
Expo’s launch week will debate how housing in Sunderland – and around the world – will change as new construction technologies emerge, and the impact it will have on future lifestyles. A range of leading lights in their field will take part in virtual discussions, giving their own insight into how housing – and what people are looking for from their home – is transforming.
It will also explore how – as homes are built on Riverside Sunderland – modern methods of construction, green and sustainable energy solutions and smart technology can help the city maximise future benefits for local people and local businesses.
Councillor Graeme Miller, leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “We have a unique opportunity with Riverside Sunderland to develop homes that are world-leading, that respond to people’s rapidly-changing needs and that maximise new technology and innovation.
“The launch of Sunderland Future Living Expo is a chance to start – what we know will be – a fascinating discussion about how homes are changing and the ways in which Sunderland can deliver exciting new communities where the people of the city can live, work and play. .
“The event – and indeed the launch itself – will attract the attention of luminaries from around the world, in the fields of architecture, urban regeneration and housing, as well as being attended by businesses keen to understand the opportunities our ground-breaking plans for homes on Riverside Sunderland will present. It will be a fantastic event.”
Thought leaders taking part in the launch programme, which will run from Monday 19 October to Friday 23 October, include Sunderland-born TV architect George Clarke; the CEO of Finnish Housing Fair, Anna Tapio; Trend Bible’s Naomi Pollard and regional business leaders, including James Ramsbotham, chief executive of the North East England Chamber of Commerce.
